The P-51 Mustang is a fighter aircraft
manufactured by North American Aviation and it became one of
the prominent aircraft during the war. |
The P-51's maiden flight was on October 26,
1940 and was introduced in 1942. In 1943-44, P-51s
became available to the 8th and 9th Air Forces. The
P-51 proved to be a perfect for the task of escorting
bombers all the way to the deepest targets. Later in
1944, P-51s were deployed in the Far East for close support
and escort missions and it operated in the Tactical Photo
Reconnaissance role. P-51 Mustang remained in service
with more than 30 air forces after the war. |
Bud Anderson is a WWII Triple Ace who have
flown the P-51 Mustang, while being assigned to the 357th
Fighter Group "Yoxford Boys", 8th Air force, LEiston Field,
United Kingdom. Bud was the leading Ace of the 363rd
Fighter Squadron with 16 1/4 victories. Bud is still
an active pilot, maintaining his Certified Flight Instructor
Rating (CFI) and still flies P-51 at air shows and other
events. |
